Blastoise is one of the original Kanto starters and a Base Set holo grail. Here are its best cards — with the cheapest raw copy and the cheapest PSA 10 on eBay for each.
1. 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise (1999)
The grail — the 1st Edition Base Set Blastoise (#2/102, with the "Edition 1" stamp) is one of the most coveted vintage holos, hugely valuable in PSA 10.
2. Blastoise ex Special Illustration Rare (151, 2023)
The modern Kanto chase — the Blastoise ex SIR from Pokémon 151 rides the same nostalgia wave as the 151 Charizard and Venusaur. See is it worth it.
3. Shadowless Base Set Blastoise (1999)
The next tier down from 1st Edition — Shadowless Base Set Blastoise lacks the art-box drop-shadow and is far rarer than the later Unlimited print.
4. Blastoise & Piplup GX (Cosmic Eclipse, 2019)
A fan-favorite Tag Team — the Blastoise & Piplup GX alternate/full art is a popular high-grade target.
5. Base Set Blastoise — Unlimited (1999)
The most common Base Set print — still a beautiful, desirable holo and the most affordable way to own a Base Set Blastoise.
Raw or PSA 10?
Raw is the affordable way to collect; a PSA 10 commands a major premium and is the store of value for the Base Set grails. Buy graded for vintage to remove authenticity risk — see how to spot fakes. Buying raw to grade? Read how to grade and check the grading calculator.
